HISP -- Historic Preservation

HISP 600 Seminar in Historic Preservation (3) A team taught introduction to the total range of preservation as well as the contributions of participating departments. Students will be introduced to practitioners in the field.

HISP 619 Special Topics in Historic Preservation (3) Repeatable to 6 credits. Technical aspects of preservation taught by practitioners whose expertise are of special benefit to certificate students.

HISP 678 Fieldwork in Historic Preservation (3) One hour of lecture and three hours of laboratory per week. 56 semester hours. Junior standing. Repeatable to 6 credits if content differs. Also offered as ARCH 676. Advanced fieldwork in research and documentation of historic sites and structures including primary local history research, building analysis, survey techniques, field photography, and graphic documentation techniques.

HISP 679 Measured Drawings for Historic Preservation (3) One hour of lecture and three hours of laboratory per week. 56 semester hours. Junior standing. Repeatable to 6 credits if content differs. Also offered as ARCH 676. Teaches graphic documentation methodologies for historic buildings, including hand measuring, drafting, preparing a sketch plan, analyzing buildings, and producing finished drawings in ink. Students will analyze building in situ.

HISP 700 Final Seminar in Historic Preservation (3) Critical evaluation of project, portfolio, or fieldwork on which the students have been working throughout the program; a synthesis of historic preservation process and achievements with special focus on careers in the field.
