Graduate Certificate of Professional Studies in Persian (GCPS)
The Graduate Certificate of Professional Studies in Persian, a National Flagship Language Initiative, is a program for individuals who already possess basic functional ability in Persian (roughly ILR 1+ or better, ACTFL Advanced or better, or 3-4 semesters of Persian). The program employs an innovative, task-based curriculum, with content areas in modern Iranian culture, politics and International relationss.

Graduate Certificate of Professional Studies in Radar Signal Processing (GCPS)
Radar Signal Processing is a highly specialized engineering field that involves signal processing techniques and other operational aspects of radar systems. Offered through the University of Maryland's distinguished Norbert Wiener Center for Harmonic Analysis and Applications, in the College of Computer, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, in conjunction with the A. James Clark School of Engineering, the 12-credit Graduate Certificate program is taught by some of the leading experts in the field. Students learn both the fundamentals of modern RADAR systems and the underlying mathematical basis for the processing of RADAR returns. Credits earned during the Certificate program may be applied toward the Masters in Mathematics of Advanced Industrial Technology (MAIT) program at the University of Maryland.

Filling a growing need within the field, the Graduate Certificate of Professional Studies in Real Estate Development offers graduate courses relevant to the broader economic, public and policy implications of real estate development activities. The programs provide a foundation in the six aspects of real estate developmentland acquisition and redevelopment, finance, architectural design, construction management, marketing, and property management. Academic grounding is balanced with the professional tools and techniques essential to successful development, including negotiation skills and the fundamental process and legal tools to bring a development to fruition.

Graduate Certificate of Professional Studies in Food Safety Risk Analysis (GCPS)
Offered by the University of Maryland's Office of Professional Studies, in conjunction with the Department of Nutrition & Food Science and the Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (JIFSAN), the Graduate Certificate can be completed entirely online in only one year. Through a series of four 10-week online courses, students will be instructed in the three basic components of risk analysis: 1) risk management, 2) risk communication, and 3) risk assessment.

Offered by the University of Maryland's Office of Professional Studies in conjunction with the School of Public Policy, College of Information Studies, and the A. James Clark School of Engineering, the program has conveniently scheduled evening classes to accommodate working professionals. Students explore security concerns and concepts from both a technical and management point of view with an emphasis on implementation techniques and financial management. Along with aspects of policy decision making, students are introduced to the managerial, political, and ethical problems faced by public sector leaders.

Thats what you can do as an historic preservation professional  working for a preservation, architecture, or planning firm, a museum or historic site, or a governmental agency. The Graduate Certificate of Professional Studies in Historic Preservation uses Washington, D.C., and Baltimore and Annapolis, MD, as learning laboratories to teach students the most current theories, research and documentation methods, public policy, and laws of the discipline. Catering to new professionals as well as established practitioners, the program will help students deepen their knowledge so they can more effectively plan, manage, and conserve our cultural and historic resources.

Transportation systems that are well planned  that are safe, efficient, maintained and continually improved  significantly influences the quality of life of every citizen, preserves natural resources, and promotes economic development. Today's policy and planning professionals, whether experienced or new to the field, must have a thorough understanding of the broader social, political and technological issues, in addition to technical competence and skills in transportation. The Graduate Certificate of Professional Studies in Transportation Planning focuses on policy and decision making, the urban transportation policy process, financing transportation systems, and land use patterns.

Graduate Certificate of Professional Studies in Arabic (GCPS)
The Graduate Certificate of Professional Studies in Arabic language, culture, Islamic studies and translation. The full immersion, content- and task-based courses are taught in Arabic to meet needs in a number of critical areas, including international relations, Arabic media and Islamic and Middle Eastern culture, including content courses on Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Egypt. Students simulate living in an Arabic-speaking environment in the following ways: twenty hours a week of structured language learning experiences, Arabic throughout the day with language partners who are native Arabic speakers, a dedicated Arabic study area filled with Arabic multimedia resources, a variety of visiting speakers, and field trips. The University of Maryland's Graduate Arabic program is also part of the National Flagship Language Program. Federally-funded NFLI/NSEP students enroll in the program as a cohort and attend full-time; new students are admitted only in summer.

Graduate Certificate of Professional Studies in Geospatial Information Sciences (GIS) (GCPS-GEOS)
The new Graduate Certificate in Professional Studies in Geospatial Information Sciences offers graduate courses in all the key areas of GIS most relevant to the contemporary workplace, including geographic information systems methods, remote sensing techniques, spatial analytical methods, modeling and specialized computer programming tailored to GIS needs. Students will become well-versed in the theoretical underpinnings of GIS and given substantial practical experience in the application of state of the art computer-based systems to a wide range of real world problems.
