Abstract
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Maryland, College Park offers one of the strongest and most highly-ranked education and research programs in electrical engineering in the nation. Led by 89 full-time and affiliate faculty members and 50 research faculty and postdocs, the research programs of Maryland cover a wide spectrum of activities in the two broad areas of (i) Information Sciences and Systems which consists of Communications and Signal Processing, Computer Engineering, and Controls; and (ii) Electronic Sciences and Devices, which consists of Electrophysics and Microelectronics.
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers graduate study leading to the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy, degrees. Last fall 2007, there were 360 graduate students in Electrical Engineering; 300 were Ph.D. students, and 60 M.S.
For additional information about the department's programs and research, please see the ECE Web site
Admissions Information
For admission to electrical and computer engineering, students must hold an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering with a B+ or better grade point average or similar undergraduate preparation in mathematics, computer science, physics or other areas of engineering or science.
