Information on degree programs at the University is published in the Graduate Catalog, available online at http://www.gradschool.umd.edu/catalog. For more information, you can contact the graduate program directly. The Graduate School does not send out hardcopy information packets to prospective students.
The University of Maryland no longer prints paper applications. The Graduate School strongly encourages prospective students to apply to the University online at http://www.gradschool.umd.edu/admission.
Each program maintains its own deadlines for application. For the Fall semester, these deadlines usually run from December 1st of the previous year to mid-February. Spring applications--if the program accepts them--are usually taken in September and October. Please contact the graduate program directly for specific information on deadlines.
The Graduate School does not set minimum GRE requirements; each graduate program sets their own standards for GRE scores. There are, however, minimum Graduate School requirements for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). Applicants with a score of 575 on the paper based test or 233 on the Computer based test (CBT) and above (with no sectional score below 50) may qualify an applicant for full admission. Applicants who score between 475 and 574 on the paper based test or 153-232 on the CBT may be considered for provisional admission, and will be required to take an English language proficiency examination upon arrival at the University of Maryland.
You send the Certification of Finances form to Enrollment Services Operations, Application for Graduate Admissions, Room 0130 Mitchell Building, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742. The form is available here.
Applicants are required to submit the $60 nonrefundable application processing fee online with a credit card during the electronic application process. If you encounter problems with your online payment, this fee may be paid via check or money order. Please include your full name and date of birth on the memo line. All check and money order payments must have encoded routing and transit numbers, and be drawn on a U.S. bank and mailed to:

For issues related to the Application Supplemental Form (ASF), online letters of recommendation, or logging into your MEGS record, please contact the MEGS Support team at gradschool@umd.edu.
You may check your application and document status via www.apra.umd.edu. There you may log in using your ASF login and date of birth. For any additional questions concerning your application/document status, please contact the department to which you are applying; a full contact list is available here.
Please email gradschool@umd.edu with technical issues concerning the Online Application or Application Supplemental form. Please be clear in your email as to which application you are having problems with.
You may have a block on your registration, which may be in place because we have not yet received official undergraduate transcripts with the degree posted. As soon as we receive them, we can lift the block. Please have them sent or deliver them to: The Graduate School, 2123 Lee Building, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742.
Non-degree seeking students wishing to take graduate classes at the University should apply as Advanced Special Students. Advanced Special Students must hold a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution and fulfill other admissions criteria, which are listed here. Advanced Special Students must either apply online or come in person at the Graduate School (2123 Lee Building), must pay the $60 application fee, and must supply official undergraduate or graduate transcripts. Advanced Special Students are not eligible for any form of financial aid, including fellowships, assistantships, and work study.
For fellowships funded by the University awarded during Fall 2004 or later, your graduate program will manage the disbursement of your fellowship thorugh the Financial Aid system. Please contact your graduate program's Coordinator, Business Manager, or Payroll person to resolve the problem. For questions related to tuition remission, please contact the Graduate School.
For fellowships that come from sources outside the University, the Graduate School will manage the disbursement of your fellowship through the Financial Aid system. When you contact the Graduate School, please have a copy of your offer letter available; this will enable the staff to help you more quickly.
For inquiries not answered by the questions above, please contact the Graduate School via email. A Graduate School staff member will respond to your inquiry as soon as possible.
