Designed largely to promote research in the humanities and social sciences — which did not share proportionately in the vast research contracts from government and industry — the board sought to encourage promising young faculty members as well as established scholars.”

The General Research Board invites applications from full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty members, assistant professor or higher, at the University of Maryland at College Park , for financial support of their research and scholarly activities during summer 2009, fall 2009, and spring 2010.
