Who We Are

Graduate Student Services is responsible for coordinating the administrative aspects of admission to the Graduate School, monitoring academic progress, and processing Petitions of Waiver of Regulation submitted to the Dean of the Graduate School. From admission to graduation, GSS plays an integral role in the progress of graduate students at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Both prospective and current students at the University of Maryland should be aware of Graduate School policies and deadlines. As one goes through their academic career at the University, the Graduate School requires certain information to ensure that each student's graduate experience meets the standards set by the University and the Dean of the Graduate School.

What We Do

Graduate Admissions

Graduate Student Services is responsible for handling all students' formal Admission to the Graduate School. Admission to the Graduate School is made on the recommendation of the faculty of one of the Graduate Programs at the University. The Application Process at the University of Maryland, College Park, consists of two parts: the application to the Graduate Program, and the application to the Graduate School. Electronic Thesis and Dissertations Program

Graduate Students at the University of Maryland submit their completed Theses and Dissertations to The Graduate School and Proquest Learning Services online. Information on the process and the upload site is listed here.

Academic Progress

A crucial part of Graduate Student Services's function within the Graduate School is to monitor the academic progress of the graduate student population, ensuring that each student's graduate education meets the standards set by the University and the Dean of the Graduate School. To do this, GSS requires that graduate students (and departments) submit information / forms that pertain to the academic status of the student. Students must submit, for example, an outline of their proposed program of study (an Approved Program Form), as well as a form listing the members of their Exam, Thesis, or Dissertation committees.

Graduate Catalog

The Graduate Catalog is the policy and program handbook for the Graduate School. In the catalog you will find official Graduate School policies, descriptions of Graduate Programs, Graduate Course listings, and a comprehensive list of the University of Maryland, College Park raduate Faculty.
