Graduate School Admissions
At the University of Maryland, we are committed to our graduate students and the programs in which they are enrolled. Our graduate student community consists of approximately 10,500 students, 4,600 of whom are pursuing a Ph.D., 5,200 who are enrolled in traditional and professional masters programs and nearly 700 who are not yet seeking a degree but are enrolled in graduate courses. International students make up more than 40% of our graduate student population. We pride ourselves on our diverse and stimulating campus culture.
In many ways, graduate study is an apprenticeship. To be successful, you must submit to hours of concentrated work in solitude, independent research, and the challenge of original writing. Graduate work takes time, patience, focus, and discipline, and the willingness to make many personal sacrifices. Despite those challenges, the University of Maryland campus, the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, and the graduate student community can provide a most agreeable enviroment.
