Statement from Interim Dean Jeffrey Franke on DACA

In response to President Trump’s decision to rescind DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), the Graduate School echoes what President Loh stated in his statement last week. The decision strikes at the heart of the values espoused by the students, faculty and staff of the Graduate School to ensure a welcoming, inclusive and just environment for all members of the University of Maryland graduate community.

We will reach out to members of the graduate community affected by this decision to ensure that they are safe and can continue their studies at the University of Maryland. We will also work with the leaders of the University, President Loh, and our Congressional delegation in support of legislation that will secure the longterm prospects for our “Dreamer” students. In the meantime, the staff and the resources of the Graduate School will support our DACA students and continue our commitment to making Maryland diverse and inclusive.

We encourage all graduate students affected by this decision to continue to refer to undocumented.umd.edu for additional information, and to contact the Graduate School if we can be of further assistance.
